Birds Ferry Lodge
Located just north of Charleston and south of Westport, Birds Ferry Lodge is run by Andre & Alison who welcome birding enthusiasts to their secluded paradise. Weka, Morepork, Kiwi and Fernbirds are just a few of the native birds you may encounter during your stay. Andre & Alison also have an aviary where they are raising pheasant and quail. Join them for a night or more and explore their 33 acre property and surrounding area. Charleston is home to the Little Blue Penguins and Andre has many tips to help you find them.
Paramata Lodge
Kathy and Neil, your hosts at Paramata Lodge welcome you to their boutique luxury accommodation. Located 35km south of Hokitika it is seculded in a wilderness location by the beach and situated between some of the West Coast's best-known attractions: Franz Josef Glacier, Punakaiki pancake rocks, Okarito kiwi and Whataroa white heron nesting sites. At the Lodge you can watch the antics of Weka and Pukeko, listen to the Tui's and bellbirds or take one of the guided activities to see wetland, forest and foreshore birds walking or by canoe.
